Anyone who knows me understands I am obsessed with photography AND books. My dad used to take me to Borders Books (remember them?) when I was a kid and I would wander the aisles for hours.
Books have a magic to them that digital will never meet. The smell of them; the feel of them; the intrigue of paper, ink and typesetting; it exudes comfort, and takes you away from reality when you need it. It’s an escape.
So one of the the most important rooms in my new home is going to be the library. Rob looked at me funny when I told him why we needed one, but now he’s on board.
My dad had a library. He still does. And there’s two comfy chairs in it. Every morning we sit and drink our coffee there. Any every night, we take a nightcap there. Some of the greatest conversations and life lessons I’ve ever had were experienced in those chairs.
And someday, Dean will have the save moments. When parent and child come together to pass on what they know – to help Dean and guide him through life.
So here’s a picture of the book wall of my library design. It’s a simple drawing on scratch paper, but it’s potential makes me dream of a beautiful future and an endearing legacy to my son. I can’t wait.
