Our studio is busy, busy! With the start of the new year comes the beginning of convention season, and we are definitely not lacking in those learning opportunities.

Professional Photographers of Oregon
Professional Photographers of Oregon is holding their annual convention in Portland, Oregon THIS weekend! Regular convention classes are on February 16 and 17, 2013. Julia will be speaking on business systems, client workflow, and other handy tips and tricks to running your own photography business.

I was privileged to meet two of the other speakers last year, Michelle Stevens, and Troy Davidson. Michelle’s wedding albums received amazing ratings in print competition and I know her class will be inspiring and educational. Troy is such a fireball that there is no way his class won’t be entertaining. Along with his infectious personality comes great experience that I’m sure will produce a rich learning environment.

Along with their amazing classes, PPO hosts print competition as well. Julia is judging this year which should be a rewarding addition to the whole experience. Prints are submitted by photographers around Oregon state and are judged based on 12 criteria. Some aspects are composition, impact, lighting, presentation, and creativity (see the whole list here). If the print exceeds industry standards than the photographer earns a merit for their image! I was able to attend the judging last year it was a huge learning experience for me and I am not even a photographer! It was helpful for me to assist Julia is her business by training my eye to see images in a more educated way.

Also new to this year’s convention is Julia’s pre-convention newborn class! Julia LOVES to teach and share her knowledge of the photography business and industry so I know she is just elated to be offering this workshop.

Professional Photographers of Ohio
New to our schedule this year is Professional Photographers of Ohio. Julia is taking her newborn portraiture class on the road! The great people of Ohio will be blessed by this I am sure. Julia will use her experience and knowledge to relay the importance of relationship portraiture in photography newborn babies. Images of a new mama and her baby always pull at the heartstrings! There is a whole lineup of sure-to-be fantastic classes at PhotoBLAST ’13. Hop on over to Ohio February 20-24, 2013 to take advantage of the classes.

Later this Year
The fun doesn’t stop this month! In March Julia will be traveling to Atlanta to help with a video series with Professional Photographers of America and then is headed to the Professional Photographers of Washington convention. April is full with our Baby Love newborn workshop and Texas School. The list just goes on and on. Of course we still have sessions and client orders to fulfill as well. Like I said, busy, busy!
