If you’ve ever designed a house or remodeled anything with your husband, you can primly relate to my problems. Now add on the fact that my husband is a contractor. He’s literally Mr. Fix It and knows EVERYTHING about building. So, he’s always telling me, “we can’t do that.” “That’s too expensive.”
UGH! What a drag. Although, I do get it. We have a budget. We can’t just go willy-nilly and spend it all in one place. Its just frustrating because I have no idea what things cost, and I’m constantly having to regroup my ideas. I’m so thankful to have Rob, though. He keeps me in check. This thing would have been buried in the ground had it not been for his know-how.
So here we are, in the design phase. It started off very rudimentary with just groupings of spaces. It’s slowly come together to resemble somewhat of a floor plan and exterior.
Unfortunately, it’s ballooned into a 4500 foot house! Are you kidding me? I wanted 2500. Who wants to clean that much space? So we need to figure out how to shrink it.
Our idea was to take a gambrel style garage and attach a farmhouse to it. I love the idea of a gambrel roof and we wanted it to look like the garage had been there forever and someone came along and added a house to it. It’s coming along! And very exciting.
